Since I’ve been down to AUS to photograph airplanes. This is always my favorite time to go, with the wildflowers adding to the scene. But it gets too hot in the summer, and then I started teaching in the fall, and now this corona crap. Last time I squeezed a shutter on anything other than my phone was back in December on a trip to NYC.  Sigh.

I haven’t flown since March 5, and that was an eerily empty plane. I was supposed to be going to California every other week for work through the summer. Oh well....

“Fun” story about Spirit...my wife had a flight to New Orleans mid April for a bache lorette party. Obviously she’s not going, but we were waiting for Spirit to cancel the flight instead of us so we could get the money back. Last week they cancelled her flight there, but decided she’d still need to get back. WTF?

We had a hell of a time trying to talk to an actual human using Spirit’s customer service number. Finally I googled the quickest way to reach a person with Spirit and found somewhere to select option 5, then 1, then 6. So I select 5, then 1, then am waiting to hear the options for the next one and get something along the lines of “... press 5 for baggage questions, press 7 for frequent flyer questions...” lol

I pressed 6 anyways and got through to an operator within a minute. What a bunch of assholes.

Now, the airlines are trying to get the law thrown out that requires them to issue cash refunds for canceled flights. As you know, Spirit is only offering vouchers good for six months, which is pretty shitty. American and United have extended their vouchers for two years. We have reservations on SWA for a trip to Disneyland in June that will likely not happen. We have a full year to use those non-refundable tickets, so we’ll go somewhere at some point.

Try having them as a customer. I was so proud of a previous employer when they told Spirit (and Allegiant) to take a hike rather than bow to their endless, constant and relentless push to get us to lower our prices. We were already losing money on the services we provided  to them - how much more do they want us to lose? Assholes...

Yea, we normally avoid those 2 as well as Frontier, but the rest of the bachelorette party was taking that flight and my wife wanted to be on the same flight. Oh well...the customer service lady we did finally get though was extremely helpful and got us all our money back.

I once visited a friend that worked for Allegiant. Even though he could get me reduced fare or free flights to get back home, he said the better option was to take Greyhound. Even though the bus dumped me in  skid row at the crack of dawn with no clue how I was supposed to cover the last 15 miles to my house (pre-smartphone days) it was better than flying Allegiant...

I’ve seen that SWA 737 with  California flag livery a couple of times. Flies in and out of here on occasion.

Spirit sucks. They nickel and dime you on everything, and they have atrocious customer service. Sorry you’ve got to deal with them...

That’s the only state flag SWA I’ve managed to catch at AUS, but I did snag this retro 737 back in 2016 .

Interestingly enough, I often see the Maryland livery here. But I think it might just be doing the nonstop to/from BWI. I’ve also seen the Arizona and Tennessee liveries, but more infrequently.

We did used to get the classic livery from time to time, but I haven’t seen it in quite awhile.

I imagine the classic livery died when the newest livery (which I don’t really care for) came out. And I think the MD flag livery is the best one of all.
